AN AWKWARD LIE

Bobby Appleby, the son of Sir John -- Mr. Innes' pleasant old familiar -- stumbles on a body with a missing finger which reminds him of his old Latin teacher and which disappears, along with a pretty girl. She turns up again at his old public school and the tale which is told out of there offers a welcome change of believable pace and an ingratiating cryptocrime.
