Like this talented duo's recent Under the Bed (p. 1725), a miscellany of verse and comic vignettes, this time concerning children romping at the seaside. Some of these pieces are just silly, like the dozing girl with a grizzly looming behind her; a few pages explore wishes come true (""what if they made children-sized submarines. . .""); a four-page conversation hones in on the yuckiness of jellyfish; a two-page, child-like narrative reports the discovery of gold in a cave; there are a few cartoons and one lovely lyric echoing the sibilance of lapping waves, and that's about it. Again, Rosen's words are well deployed, and his brisk humor is reflected in Blake's exquisitely deft, cartoon-like drawings. Should be enjoyed as a browsing book for young readers, although the price seems steep for a few chuckles.
