by Mika Waltari ‧ RELEASE DATE: Jan. 13, 1960
As young Marcus enters Jerusalem, he is met by the sight of the crucifixion, and is overwhelmed by a need to know the truth behind the sign above the cross, King of the Jews. Spurned by those who had been closest to Jesus and helped by the women, he becomes eventually convinced that Jesus was the Messiah. He stumbles into adventures, for the most part made plausible by the sense of authenticity in people, background and way of life. It is a moving story with none of the shock techniques one has come to expect of Waltari.
