This is subtitled ""the complete book of mending"" and it is just that. One important omission, however- and that is a conditioning in early youth to the idea that mending is an essential to proper grooming for those in moderate circumstances- and that one learns then to mend properly. Today- who has the time to do it -- However, when the sales of Picken's are totalled one realizes there are still numerous housewives and mothers who sew- and inevitably mend. Here is their book- complete from equipment and techniques (liberally illustrated), through alterations, darning, patching, mending , women's, children's and men's clothing, repairing household articles, and adding a fillip to that tired garment. Almost I am a convert.
