A cheerful family story with distinctive period appeal, about the Binghams of Granite City, Michigan, back in the days of the incipient auto industry. Eleven year old Cassandra Bingham's father is in the carriage business. Mr. Wellfleet, his financier, allows him to build some horseless ones- only if he can sell them at the end of a year- and so Crissy and Jed Haley, her father's assistant, pitch in heartily, disregard squelchings from huffy, doubting aunt Henrietta, with the result that the cars are built and sold. Also, there are happy family times, excursions, Christmas, Halloween and the like. Tallie and Peachtree Island have already established Mildred Lawrence's ability. Marvin.
