PEACHTREE ISLAND

Third grade reading level for a story of 9-year old Cissie, orphaned, who had been passed along to aunts, and now had to go to Uncle Eben's island in Lake Erie. It turned out to be a wonderful year, and the peach farm was exciting and Cissie was thrilled with everything that lived and grew there. She knew she couldn't stay forever because she was a girl and Uncle Eben wanted a boy. But somehow she managed to make herself so useful that when her aunt phoned that she was ready for her, Uncle Eben wouldn't give her up... A warm and friendly book, with authentic materials.
