BROOMTAIL

Some pleasantly humanized adventures of a wild plains pony in which the pinto, Broomtail, runs with the herd, learns about the seasons, and the dangers of other wild animals. His capture by the Indians and a stint as young Red Eagle's own horse precedes a climax in which Broomtail saves his master's life by killing a puma. As a reward he is set ""free forever"" with the brand on his forelegs which will ward off future captors. William Moyers' dramatic drawings bring out the author's feeling for wild life and lore in a simple, heartwarming tale.
