JACOB TWO-TWO MEETS THE HOODED FANG

Jacob Two-Two is actually two plus two plus two years old and gets his name because he says everything twice. . . says everything twice. After he's teased and embarrassed by the loudmouthed greengrocer, Jacob finds himself captured by a sinister grownup conspiracy, The Slimers, and locked up with other misunderstood children in a dungeon-like prison where they must labor to keep the fog machines working and subsist on a menu featuring electric eel soup (""It's shocking""). Jacob soon unmasks his warder, The Hooded Fang (suspiciously like a wrestler he has seen on the telly) and knowing that this arch villain is really a secret softy, he liberates his fellow captives with a little help from Child Power. Mordecai Richler (of Duddy Kravitz fame) approaches children's fantasy with a slambang eclecticism that's reminiscent of Roald Dahl although the underlying sensibility is different. In any case Jacob Two-Two and his campaign against kill-joy grownups (""any big person who can't stand little ones also fears the sun"") is dismayingly cute-cute. . . though up against an easy mark like the grungy Slimers you can imagine him drumming up popular support.
