Jenny Willson the mother of 15-year old Sam and 11-year old Suki, the wife of a successful photographer-writer, had imagined herself very happy indeed. Then Jeff over-rode her vto of Sam's plan to trail his girl's tour- through Europe, and Jeff plans a summer there on an assignment. A chance comment and a chance meeting with suave Philippe Maspere provides her with an inexpensive house on the Riviera. Things don't quite work out that way- the house is not cheap, Philippe seems to be included in the rent, and Jeff's assignment is with the student tour and the tour leader is a young blonde with a remarkable resemblance to Princess Grace. As the summer staggered on, Jeff suspects Philippe, while she entertains her own doubts of his involvement elsewhere, until finally- in Italy, all is cleared up. The humor, while late in getting started, is about par for the course of innocents abroad (amazement over continent plumbing, appreciation for haute cuisine) and the thought, style and characterization do not rise above the cliche.
