A little more than just another Indian story. The tragedy for the Indians of the white man's westward movement stands out with painful reality in this life of a chief who lived in the early 1990's and strove to keep his braves at peace. Black Hawk, Tecumseh, and Keokuk, the hero, as well as George Rogers Clark, Julian Dubuque and George Davenport are among those who come to life for today's readers. The latter part of the story is slowed up by stress on the hopeless condition of the Indians. Nevertheless this does give thoughtful readers an idea of the other side of our conquest of the red man.
