As backup and balance for the author's Frabjous Day, this generally lighter-weight collection of holiday rhymes is strongest, surprisingly, on the dazzle of Fourth of July (Silverstein, Valerie Worth, Felice Holman) and the fun and shivers of Halloween (Serraillier, Lillian Moore, e. e. cummings, Worth again). Selections for Valentine's Day are short and sweet; for Easter there's a mix of the pious and the silly; and for Lincoln's and Washington's birthdays and Mother's and Father's days Livingston supplies a trusty range of sentiments, drawng most heavily on Langston Hughes, Eve Merriam, and Carl Sandburg. Nothing to make you chortle with glee, but serviceable in season.
