ONE O'CLOCK AT THE BUTTON FACTORY

This is a very funny book most of the way, but the writer's determination to give the reader his money's worth should have been reason enough for more conscientious editing. More so (?) since it is perilously close to the level of nasty little boys with pieces of chalk. Mr. Beatty has an abiding interest in sex and other more functional aspects of human behavior but his handling of these universalities often leads to honest, earthy humor. Even if, here and there, he approaches the scatological, on the other hand, his section on racial discrimination is sound and laced with witty, bitter satire. One O'Clock is for the gentlemen, and not recommended as a Christmas gift for the minister.
