Known principally for easy reading stories about the triplets, Abercrombie, Benjamin and Christopher (Three Boys and a Train, etc.), Mrs. Agle turns to the history of their territory for a biography of Princess Mary, the Pascataway Indian girl who grew up as the beloved daughter of the tribe's emperor Kittamaquund, was Christianized, educated and finally married Giles Brent. The time is shortly after the first English colonization. The relations established between Kittamaquund, who wanted his daughter eventually to be Queen, and the English were based on mutual aid and respect. Through Father Andrew White, the tribe learns to accept a loving God and later Kittimaquund is delighted when his daughter is given the chance to go to St. Mary's to be educated by Brent's two sisters. It is a liaison which proves fortunate for the English too, for in the ensuing struggle with Virginia, Brent's marriage to Princess Mary brings a strong alliance as well as personal happiness.
