by Nancy Hartwell ‧ RELEASE DATE: May 22, 1956
Another story by Nancy Hartwell, this also has its foreign elements (see Blue for Ill about a Hungarian girl come to America) as Tries O'Kaue is willed $1000 by a former art teacher to study for six months at the Art Institute in San Miguel, Mexico. With this basis for a plot we read on with some anticipation but were disappointed to find San Miguel and its institute equipped with a set of stock characters. Mostly, the intent is to let Triss, a nice bright girl, have a taste of foreign life, love it, but be glad to get home. She meets Jack, an architecture student who is bothered by a possessive sister. She meets Fidel, a Mexican who sweeps her off her feet for a while. She gets to know other students and teachers in various states of slump and progress. A scholarship to Chicago precedes her return home and back to Jack, from Fidel. Sketchy.
