SWEDE HOMESTEAD

The story of a Swedish immigrant's homesteading against odds, as he settles near Coeur d'Alene Lake, in 1893. His wife doing housework forty miles away, he works alone, to clear the forest, until his brother joins him, then the two labor, hunt, fish, trap, endure the winters, acquire stock. Then Louie's wife joins them, there are neighborly doings, distant as the neighbors were, there are storms, anecdotes, Louie's arrest for killing a deer, and its outcome. After comparatively successful years, they are forced to leave, in 1901, when his wife is taken ill. A simple, chronicle, mostly in dialect.
