When Oscar Otter's slide was blocked by the beaver, he complained to his father. ""'So build another slide,' said his father, his mouth full of fish,"" was the typically unsympathetic paternal reply. So Oscar decided to show his father and build a slide that stretched all the way into the mountains. It worked fine, until he tried to investigate the other side of the hill and was followed by a fox, followed by a wolf, followed by a mountain lion, followed by a moose. The story reaches full momentum as they all roll down together and, except for Oscar, end up in a traffic pile-up over another one of the beaver's logs. The easy reader vocabulary slides right along, and the illustrations capture perfectly the otter's ecstasy in descent.
