A memoir of the mourned Kathleen Ferrier will touch those who heard her in its tribute. Critic Neville Cardus, composer Benjamin Britten, conductors Sir John Barbirolli and Dr. Bruno Walter, teacher Roy Henderson and accompanist Gerald Moore form a distinguished corps of eulogists. Through them we come to know more of the woman and artist who was both Lancashire lass and great lady. We witness her flowering- her growth in the musical soil of lancashire, her later studies with Roy Henderson who writes specifically of her voice and training, her spiritual attainment in Mahler with Dr. Walter's guidance -- and the moving feat of her last Orpheus with death so near. A testament to a great spirit as well as a great voice, this tender expression of devotion and admiration is a fine and lovely thing.
