Lucky Lindy, lucky kids--here's a recap of the famous flight with the urgency and exhaustion and elation of the original. By itself the text has no particular distinction (in contrast to the Dalgliesh edition of Lindbergh's log) but the wide--often double--page format and the vivid color of the series has been used to descriptive and dramatic advantage. A few pages accompany his early stunt flights; then it's off across the Atlantic (ocean-spanning map) in the ""flying fuel tank"" (cutaway locating vital equipment--including five ham sandwiches) enclosed in a cramped cockpit (photo-sharp view of instrument panel from pilot's seat). Lindbergh's time and distance are featured on every double-page spread as he fights a storm, fights sleep, fights delusions, then spots a fishing fleet, the Irish coast, the lights of Paris. . . and lands by auto headlight. Far superior to the first Champion Books (551, J-207), and eye-filling from dawn, Roosevelt Field, to dusk, Deauville.
