A semi-fictional biography of a horse, by the Siberian-American author of They That Take The Sword (Harper-1939) and a simple, non-sentimentalized, and at the same time rather flat, account. Jumper, offspring of a plebeian mare and an English thoroughbred, transmits his own experiences; his early education, the unwanted separation from his mother, the new friendships with other horses and his young master -- Denis. Full grown, he is recruited by the Czar for military duty, sees one master killed, is himself wounded, is given further service in the Red Army, and finally returns to Denis. Limited.
