TSING-BOOM!

Like some latter-day Dutch Maigret, police investigator Van der Valk solves his cases (Love in Amsterdam, Because of the Cats, et al.) through a combination of personal involvement, intuition, and investigatory grind. This time, the murder of a youngish married woman leaves him with a ten-year-old daughter to adopt as well as an analysis of old passions that had fermented to new villainies. There's a solve-it-yourself ending for the highbrows of this lowly regarded genre.
