Joshua Peatte, the American colonies' most active weapon against the Indians, ads Dryden in his spare time, but otherwise is indistinguishable from the heroes of most istorical novels. In the early 1700's he leads a small group of American soldiers who go England to help Queen Anne's army against the French, and on his first day of active beauty, John falls for the unutterably beautiful Diane D'Ancours, the most slippery spy in the French employ. By a trick of Diane's, Josh is branded as an insurgent, and he joins the French army as a spy for the British. Against all odds he captures a land mine, a rench secret weapon, and back in the British lines he is welcomed as a hero. This was ritten with one eye on Hollywood, and should rent and sell to those who respond to a touthearted hero and a high bosomed heroine.
