THE TROJAN WAR

Companion volume to Greek Myths (and to some extent dependent on it, for familiarity with the characteristics of the gods and goddesses and their intimate dealings with men). The Trojan War is, perhaps the most successful of her books. From the intricate complexity of the multi-legend war, Mrs. Coolidge has woven the material into a continuous pattern (sometimes taking liberties that the classicists may resent). She has included most of the better known individual episodes; she has simplified some of the issues; she has drawn the famous figures of the legends in vigorous terms; she has shown the gods and goddesses with their human frailties and passions, as taking vital part in the struggle. Here for today's readers is one of the world's great stories.
