The setting this time is the period of the Second Empire, and the story is excellent entertainment, full of color and action and atmosphere and romance. The success of Jonathan Bishop should pave the way for further novels of that period. The central character is the mysterious and beautiful Lorendana, dancer, spy, tool of Lucien Toulon of the Secret Service.
