Such a careful and thorough study as this deserves serious attention by all New Testament scholars. Dr. Oscar Cullmann, professor of New Testament and Early Christianity at the University of Basel, has already become widely known in this country by the publication of his earlier books, ""The Early Church"" and ""Christ and Time"". Here, as in his other writings, he makes plain that he regards redemptive history (Heilsgeschichte) the real center of early Christian faith and thought. Though they could not form a closely structured Christology, being so near to the events in history, yet the first Christians did see God's redemptive revelation in Jesus Christ, whose true nature can be known only in his work in the flesh. This was verified in their own personal and worship experiences as encounter with the Lord who is identical with the incarnate Jesus, and through reflection concerning the relation of Jesus Christ to all the rest of God's revelation. The book is well indexed both as to sources and the Bible itself. No thorough student of the New Testament can afford to miss this one.
