THE PURLOINED PAPERWEIGHT

Henry Paradene, a reluctant inheritor, finds himself proprietor of a number of relatively useless heirlooms. A pity, for Henry is in extreme need of more solid financial support. But then distant cousin J. Wendell Stickney, American millionaire and dilettante collector of 18th century French paperweights, arrives and discovers one among Henry's gloomy possessions. Unfortunately it cannot legally be sold. But the two of them hit upon the delightful idea that Stickney should pay for the pleasure of stealing it and smuggling it to the States. Unfortunately complications arise in the form of Henry's niece Jane who suspects Stickney of dark doings; Jane's charming rascal of a brother Algernon who is ready to take advantage of any situation and Algernon's friend Bill, in love with Jane (who naturally is engaged to someone else). Round we go on a typical Wodehousian merry-go-round. It's light, droll and expectedly humorous.
