CHEERFUL

Cheerful, a creature of the author-artist whose Beyond the Pawpaw Trees and The Silver Nutmeg endeared him to an assured audience, is a city church mouse. But he has a persistent longing for the country (where his white feet won't get all sooty) and manages to get there via an Easter egg. The tiny drawings, some in delicate colors, are marvels of detail and design and very debonair.
