by Parents' Institute ‧ RELEASE DATE: Nov. 11, 1953
A practical guide for the mother who needs help in planning family marketing and preparation for meals that take care of nutritional needs at all age levels, and provide appetizing dishes at the same time. The book provides all sorts of charts- kind and amounts of foods for economical purchase- caloric values of foods and size of servings, check lists of leftovers, staples, basic cookbooks, terms; calendar charts for lunches; simple preparation of fruits in chart tabulation, and so on. There are excellent introductory chapters on marketing, on preparation for food that can be slightly varied in serving children and adults. There are suggestions on how to make basic foods more interesting. There are suggestions for the cook in using the recipes. And then there are the recipes themselves, topically arranged in alphabetical order (Beverages, Breads, Cakes, etc. on to Salads, Vegetables). Not a gourmet cookbook or even a basic overall cookbook. But a sound family slanted book, budget geared. Some of the recipes have appeared in Parents' Magazine.
