CHRISTINA KATERINA & THE BOX

Playing with boxes is a favorite nursery pastime, but it takes more than the display of something fun to do to make a story. When her mother gets a new refrigerator, Christina makes the upright box into a castle. Then Fats Watson kicks over the castle and she uses it sideways for a clubhouse. Fats caves in the clubhouse roof and the box becomes a race car; he cuts up the car to look at the engine and the flattened box becomes the floor of a mansion. Finally Fats scrubs the floor and it falls apart; but just when Mother thinks she can get rid of the old box, Fats arrives with two ships made from the boxes to his mother's new washer and dryer. If the author were as inventive as Christina, there might be more to the book.
