JUMP, FROG, JUMP

A brother and sister become intrigued by Mark Twain's story about the jumping frog of Calavoras County, and decide that they too want to enter their own frog in the annual Jump Frog Jubilee, which is still held in California. The care of the frog comes to take precedence over the actual competition -- when it actually does occur, the frog disqualifies itself. The relationship between brother and sister seems quite convincing in this simple but very natural story. The text is smooth and suitable for an early reader.
