This is the seventh case featuring Inspector Henry Tibbett and it finds this pleasant, persistent little man in the midst of an egregiously eccentric family, the Manciples, after a former bookmaker with hopes of buying Cregwell Grange, their estate, is murdered. Then there's Aunt Dora, 93, who'd been in touch with the spirit world before she joins it--and a romance--and a missing volume of the Iliad which is not all Greek to the inspector. Not really fantastical; it dots i's and crosses t's as it solves x's in a plausible equation.
