Mr. Campbell firmly believes that every man should be his own woman (to whom he refers as ""the machine"") and he is seen here rising imperturbably above a good many urgently messy crisis situations, like cleaning up after a sack of flour mixed with yeast. In fact, even though his book is approached and subdivided with a great deal more regularity than one might think (morning tea time; the elevenses; lunch; tea; cocktails; dinner; supper) it's very hard to follow this itinerary of intake-- nothing seems to go down except in liquid form. Even the boeuf en casserole doesn't get made, but it all occasions some nonsequential nonsense. His, not hers.
