THE AFFAIR OF JOHN DONNE

book-length but not quite book-sized flummery involves a rampant Far Right group, the John Donne society, which is being used, without the knowledge of its founder, by the Communists. Agents Harrigan and Hoeffler gain admission and thereby are able to subvert the whole organization with one fell coup. Mr. O'Malley, whose prose runs to mixed metaphors like this, also attempts an airy persiflage which is sadly froth-free.
