Annie, approaching adolescence, joins the carnival as an active member when she and her horse Spotty prepare to make a debut in a breathtaking diving act. Between the girl and the horse has existed a sacred communion without which the perilous act would be impossible. But on the eve of Annie's ascendance to stardom, both she and the horse become afraid. The story of Annie's difficult and moving return to confidence is told here in a manner which should appeal to all girls entering the ""shakey"" age and perhaps particularly to that large group who are smitten with horses.
