THE DIVORCE HANDBOOK

A little explored but widely traveled road (in the last 10 years by eight million), this offers excellent preparatory guidance for those about to see their lawyer and includes human as well as legal considerations in what cannot but be a painful procedure. While divorce solves some problems, it creates others. How to choose a lawyer and where to secure divorce counseling; what grounds may be used, and what are the strategies of defense (it is almost always an ""adversary proceeding""); annulment and separation as alternatives; migratory divorces (the ""quickie"" divorces of Alabama, Mexico, etc. are not without risk); the costs; alimony; and the children- always the first consideration; and after , problems of social adaptation and adjustment- all are part of a blunt but not cold manual- with a state by state listing of grounds and lawyer referral services. Concentrated on this one phase of Pilpel & Zavin's Your Marriage and the Law (1952) and obviously for a long if regrettably wide usage.
