by Paul Gallico ‧ RELEASE DATE: March 7, 1938
Swell reading, for anyone interested in a survey of the field of sport during thirteen years, as told by a sports writer bidding farewell to his field. The dizzy whirl, with plenty of big names, with the sham and heroism and skull-duggery. Brief biographies of the top notchers, discussion of amateurs, knocks the rampant professionalism of football, and other major sports. Analyses are interesting, -- appeal, making a name, shady dealing, promotion, etc. He smashes illusions right and left, but writes with such punch and honesty that it makes engrossing reading. Men primarily.
