FURTHER CONFESSIONS OF A STORY WRITER

Novelist, short story writer, sports writer, Paul Gallico ranks as a successful professional writer, who has for some twenty odd years, make his living as a free lance writer. In this book, which is a new version of a publication in 1946, he takes the reader behind the scenes giving him ""a glimpse into the room of a professional story-teller"". Aspirants will relish the introductory material accompanying each of the twenty stories, giving the source, the inspiration, something of the techniques (whether a formula story, one based on a chance heard incident, a story built around a subject- such as a newspaper, a golf game, a personality- or wholly imaginary). In an autobiographical introduction Gallico tells of his training for his profession, and advises young writers to get the discipline of deadlines, of writing systematically, of accepting writing on a professional basis. The output of 25 years is 130 published stories. This collection is made of 20 of these, chosen to give a wide range of type, knowhow, etc. Good entertainment, and for the budding writer, a generous slice of helpful advice.
