by Paul Hackett ‧ RELEASE DATE: Oct. 1, 1970
A dolorous spell in and out of a mental hospital and in and out of the disordered mind of Austrian-born Baron Karl Justus. The ""faded elegance"" of the past melds with other idees de grandeur now--a Princess who is in actuality a little whore and who also revives memories of Justus' wife Erika. Eventually it will appear that he killed her (necrophilia-paranoia) and along with his disturbances, there are those of the other inmates, one of whom he escapes with briefly along with the Princess. Hackett is both a baroque and a vehement writer but he hasn't managed to make any of it seem real. Worse, it doesn't even seem to matter.
