PIECES OF TIME: Peter Bogdanovich On the Movies

Bogdanovich (the young director of The Last Picture Show) is described here by Harold Hayes of Esquire, where these pieces first appeared, as ""Hollywood's first faithful child"" who apparently spent most of his childhood movie-watching (45,000 of an extant 60,000). He'll introduce himself later as more of a popularizer than a critic and these impressions, short profiles, random snatches (without the style or ego of, say, Rex Reed) touch on other directors, producers, vehicles and some of the greats of a greater era -- Bogart and Cary Grant, Marlene and Jimmy Stewart, etc. Shoptalk, small talk to a degree but pleasant -- casuals which reflect the ""wildly eclectic"" interests and admirations of a young man who is probably still watching that last picture show somewhere before going on to make another film himself.
