When we actually get to hear people talking about their work in their own voices, the result is almost always superior, and jobs around the harbor have a special shirtsleeve glamor. Here we watch Captain Whitey, a docking pilot, bring the containership Atlantic Cinderella into Port Elizabeth, hear crewmen on the Martha Moran reminisce about the dangers of towing bulky barges and get a deckhand's view of the docking of the liner Michelangelo. Lots of space is devoted to portraits of the men and atmospheric shots of the harbor, and brief glimpses of the role of fireboats in an emergency and the work of the ""floating hospital"" just make you realize how much more there is to know. But this is fresh looking and full of specifics with a bare minimum of voiceover narration.
