A man-eating lion almost gets to nibble on Inspector Pibble who first appeared in The Glass-Sided Ants' Nest (see p. 783-1968) as Scotland Yard's handler of oddball murder cases. This one concerns the resident toffs and costumed hirelings of a stately home opened to tourists for pay. All in one day, Pibble discerns the murderous nature of an apparent suicide, uncovers a fratricide, discovers and barely escapes the disposal unit growling away in the estate's private zoo, and nearly gets hung at its Olde English hanging post. More active than reasonable this time but fun.
