After school came Greenland where he underwent the rigours of Eskimo life; then the career of a novelist and journalist, a time in Hollywood, visits to Germany and Russia in the 30's and, with World War II- duty with the Danish underground. All of it pretty exciting, and marked by strong political and social awareness.
