Modesty is an orphan-millionairess-exsmuggler-art and jewel thief turned female commando in Her Majesty's (temporary) service. She operates with a small, trained corps of killer aides. Privately, she is a lapidarian, is expert at Thai-style personal combat (superior to Karate), has weird weapons and bombs hidden on her body and in her bra, and has an exhaustive knowledge of pistols, gourmet foods, music and Yoga. Not to mention Far Eastern languages and a screaming sex life. In the last chapter she singlehandedly kills twenty men and a mainly female hermaphrodite, though the super-criminal escapes. Adapted from a comic-strip, Modesty is a parody of James Bond expertise and, we'll admit it, outrageously diverting. Oh, she smokes Gauloises.
