THE AMAZING SUMMER

Newsreel into fiction, England over the summer of 1940 from the fall of France to the bombing of London. In the usual Gibbs manner, old school tie and hat. This is largely the story of the Moretons; Guy, a flier, who crashes in France, hides out and then makes his escape to England in an old fishing ketch; Anthea, the daughter, running a restaurant in London; David, the youngest, also in the air, and Gillian, the girl Guy loves. There is the De Gaulle activity ficitionized through a French friend--the bombing of London with the death of Guy's Gillian -- and the carry-on-England with David's death. Comparable in sales and rentals to his last two, mechanized fiction for a mechanized war.
