Any boy remotely interested in the Coast Guard will find this fascinating reading, but it is first and last a Coast Guard book, though better done than most. Pete Shute, a youth in training, hoping for an appointment to the school, is the central character, though one gets quite emotionally interested in the brave young lieutenant. But, as a story, it is tied up with the activities, the step by step training procedure, and the kinds of adventures that might well happen in the course of duty. Good feel of the sea.
