In this brisk, stimulating little book, a French Protestant attacks modern Christianity as being too stolid, unimaginative and essentially bourgeois to withstand the materialistic pressures of the Left. Considering religious disinvolvement as a dangerous luxury in our age, he urges Christians to engagement on the political level as a means of helping others and of keeping their faith alive. Specifically, he feels that Evangelization--- the total missionary activity of the church---should include political activity while avoiding marriage of church and state. Nor does he encourage the ""Christianization"" of the world such as elements of the Roman Catholic church envision. Rather, he defines a new Christian leftist politics, with the individual carrying it personally into all fields of social organization. Well-timed, at a moment when morality in social affairs occupies so many educated readers.
