Translated from the French, by Jacqueline de Leon, this is the very simple story of little Bijou's adventures when he finds a friend in the orphaned Annette and helps her get to the Carnival. It is an older bear, Anatole who plots the little girl's escape from her horrid aunt (quite a horrid escape too), who tangles with a one-bear band, and who remembers a tent they can hide in when the aunt catches up with them. Disguised as clowns they are safe once more and Annette goes to live with Bijou and his family.
