THE WORLD OF WATTEAU

The latest addition to the Library of Art Series is a profusely pictorial presentation not only of Watteau as individual (diffident, unconcerned with fame) and artist (poetic vision and technical accomplishment) but also of the social and cultural milicus of Louis XIV and Louis XV. Shorter evaluation of his successors conclude. This is sound simplification with multiple possibilities for school use (though we doubt that many adolescents are attracted by Watteau's lacy elegance).
