by P.M. Hubbard ‧ RELEASE DATE: March 18, 1974
The annual anticipation -- gracefully accomplished for Hubbard's by now steadfast readership -- as once again a rural West Country habitat frames a story Of muffled menace and contained romance. This time it's Ian Mackellar drawn to the woman Julia Mellors who in turn seems more than unnatural in her role of surrogate mother to her difficult, dangerous brother and a younger sister -- the former amphibious underwater and as murderous as a sea serpent. One reads it surely, pleasurably submitting to the spell that binds.
