by Poul Anderson ‧ RELEASE DATE: July 9, 1965
Poul plays it cool with war, women and many French songs in this rather flowery science-fiction adventure. Gunnar Heim, a space-eyed patriot involves the world state of Franck in an illicit war maneuver. The Alerions have taken over the space colony New Europe and the World Federation is decrying retaliation in favor of peace. Aside from several splendiferous descriptions of various aliens (one of whom is quite gay), and a night-marish march among walking forest and slaughter machines, Anderson remains a Miniver Cheevy in the world of John Glenn.
