NOT TO MENTION CAMELS

Lafferty's short stories are usually a pleasure, but this novel proves that it's possible to have too much of a good thing. It's the curious tale of the leaders and followers of a bizarre cult who spend most of their time killing or being killed in various ugly ways and being reborn upon some other world. Only on the Prime World is there no rebirth, and the problem is knowing whether or not you're there. Lafferty has a point or two to make, but only the uncommonly persistent are likely to follow these murky events to their obscure conclusion.
